The woman was arrested by the police in Barangay Ibabao, Cordova and is now facing libel charges. According to the report, the woman allegedly posted on her Facebook account: “Ang mayor nga kawatan dako ug kurakot,” and “Mao atong mayor nga kurakot.”

Now the question is, can a person be really charged with libel by posting on Facebook? In the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, it is stated:

This isn’t the first time that someone was sued for defamation for posting on social media.

Talent Manager Annabelle Rama was also charged with libel in 2012 after posting malicious comments on actress Nadia Montenegro on Twitter.

So yeah, always keep in mind to always think before you click, or someone might sue your for defamation!
