OFW Raped In Bahrain Is Saved After Her Facebook Video Went Viral

Abby Luna tells her harrowing story of how she was raped in Bahrain by her employer’s son.

Luna, a 28-year-old OFW working as a domestic helper in Hamad, Bahrain, sought help in a 3-minute video posted in her Facebook account on Thursday, April 9, 2015.


In the video, she narrates how she was physically abused and raped by her employer’s son. He then threatened that if she told anyone, he’ll bury her in the desert. Now after she told her employer what happened, her son claimed she was the one who seduced him. Luna’s employer told her that if she wants to leave, she’d have to wait 2 months and would have to buy her own ticket since her contract isn’t finished yet. If she’s pregnant, her employer said that she have to abort the child. Afraid of her life, she pleads help since the employer’s son is a drug addict and can potentially cause her harm:

Her video has since gone viral after she sought the help of journalist Even Demata, who has ~337,000 followers on Facebook. The video has now about a combined views of 2.8 million and 170,000 shares on Facebook.

Through the social media, a netizen who have connections in Bahrain offered help.
