Posted on: Wednesday, January 14, 2015

1 week before the Sinulog Grand Parade, Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan was held to announce the winners that will be performing in the Grand Parade. This year’s Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan competition in street dancing and ritual dance was very tight. The assembly area was in Plaza Independencia where the contingents prepared their props and costumes and females retouched their make-ups.

Street dancing starts from the assembly area to the Cebu City Sports Center. The street dancers never look tired while performing and instead it’s happiness that you could see on their faces. Crowds huddled together to watch them jig gracefully to the beat of the rhythm.

Seven contingents were from Elementary Division and eight from Secondary. They competed for the Grand Prize and for the chance to perform in Grand Parade.

From the Grandstand to the Oval, the Cebu city Sport Center were jam-packed with people who wanted to cheer their bet and to witness the event.

Every contingent bragged their school as they perform the ritual dance on the stage hoping to attract the judges with their performance and colorful costumes and props. Before the announcement of winners, all of the contingents danced the “I Love Cebu” as a finale of their performances.

At the end, Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School garnered the Grand Prize followed by Tribu Mabolokon in second place, Cebu City Central School placing third, Labangon Elementary School clinching the fourth place and Carreta Elementary School emerging fifth.

Crowd cheered when Apas National School got the grand prize followed by Don Sergio Osmeña Memorial National High School being the runner-up, Abellana National School in third place, Talamban National High School finishing fourth and Pasil Night High School placing fifth.

Other contingents did not win but what matters the most for them was that they were able to dance their offering to Senyor Sto. Niño. Though it was very exhausting, it was also indeed a great experience!
