Nah, I don’t want to rant some drama here because we all know what happened 493 years ago when Datu Lapu-Lapu said these lines to Magellan who tried to make him bow to the King of Spain:
“I bow to no king, I only owe allegiance to my people.”
And that started the bloody Battle of Mactan, which in the present day is called as Kadaugan Sa Mactan, depicting Lapu-Lapu’s victory over Magellan on April 27, 1521.
After winning the battle, Lapu-Lapu’s tribe held a week-long celebration. And today, Kadaugan sa Mactan is colorfully celebrated in Lapu-Lapu, the Historic Resort City.
